Sharon Cullen: Wed to a Spy All the ueens Spies #1

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest reviewA beautiful historical romance between an unlikely match Sometimes the best love stories are the ones that progress slowly through the pages until both parties are caught unaware Ms Cullen holds readers enthrall to the end with wonderful storytelling and the vivid setting of Scotland Aimee is a protagonist ou really feel sorry for and can t wait for her to get her happily ever after Simon Marcheford is the perfect guy to win her over and it won t be easy I ve been hooked on Ms Cullen s books ever since I read one of her previous novels Historical romances are still my go to books where I m guaranteed a happy ending Simon and Aimee are pretty much set to spy on each other and before they knew it they are married I am a super fan of the marriage of convenience and forced marriage genre so I was happy that I had the chance to read this story Sadly it was not what I expected not in the romance sense anyway The romance between Aimee and Simon was too forced I get that they had to marry because it was an order by the ueen but their relationship was only beginning to simmer when the story was over Clearly there was a mutual attraction at the start of their marriage and what supposedly was a fondness for each other but where was that fondness even coming from as they were strangers Simon sounded like a real character with personal commitments and frustrations Aimee in comparison sounded like a lost puppy looking for a new owner There are lost of intrigue since the story takes place at court so there is suspense and drama If anything that intrigue was the most engrossing aspect of the story When one of the characters at court is murdered Simon and Aimee had to learn to trust each other in order to survive the rebellion that takes place at the castle All of this happens in a relative short period of time and while interesting it still lacked that WOW effect that I would have loved to find in a novel about spies It wasn t a terrible read but it definitely needed specially in the romantic department I received this book at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher I thought this was another weaker entry by Sharon Cullen and likely my last sadly esp since I loved MacLean s Passion I had to force myself to finish the book The plot sounded interesting two spies spying on each other and the historical setting was fun and different Scottish court intrigue but I found the author s constant explaining to really detract from the book Something along the lines of This happened she felt mad about it He looked embarrassed She thought about it She figured out a solution She felt so happy He was happy There was just too much explaining and plodding descriptions I think the author needs to trust her readers a little like if she says something embarrassing happens we can all figure out that a character will feel embarrassed without her saying it I also didn t see much evolution of the heroine s character She seemed immature obsessed with another man who she just kind of forgets about and a little silly frankly She essentially falls in love with the hero because he kept her warm and he was nice and strong Hm The hero seemed like a catch and probably could have done better Poor guyI received an ARC from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for my honest review REVIEW ONLINE NOW A very nice and easy to read bookI admit that I enjoy Ms Cullen s writing style It s easy to read and to followI liked the period in which the story was placed the fight between ueen Elizabeth and ueen MaryHere we have a double spy story even if it is not the focal point of the book Simon is ueen Elizabeth s spy in the courts of ueen Mary while Aimee is Catherine De Medici s spy in the same court But the problem with this couple is that she s also French while he s English You see how many things they have to overcomeBut the nice part is that while Simon is a real spy Aimee has been coerced by Catherine to become one Obviously she s not good at all In fact she Blistering seduction meets international intrigue in the Highlands as a veteran spy infiltrates the court of Mary ueen of Scots There he matches wits against a tantalizing enemy his new wife Simon Marcheford wants nothing than to settle down on the land bestowed upon him by the English crown ueen Elizabeth however is not about to let her best spy retire so easily Simon will have his

So bad that ueen Mary is aware of her being a spy since the beginningI liked very much how Aimee was She s very na ve at the beginning blindly trusting her aunt Catherine who promised her a safe return to French court and the permission to marry Philip the man she thinks she loves and who she got caught with in compromising position Obviously Catherine is lying through her teethSimon o the other hand is well aware of the explosive situation between the forces behind the politics and actively works to make things difficult for Mary And contrary of Aimee he s good at his jobWhen Mary unaware that Simon is a spy forces Simon and Aimee to marry both are very unhappy for very different reasonsAimee because she wants to may Philip Simon because he doesn t want to marry at all But they cannot ignore Mary s order and they ended married A very awkward way to start a marriage obviouslyBut what I liked is the way they both worked to make the best of the situation Aimee didn t just rejected Simon she forced herself to see what s good in him Simon also didn t reject Aimee but being a man he s first attracting to her is her appearanceBut before anything can happen between them they re forced to flee Scotland under the unjust accusation of treason During their flight to England they discover each other and slowly fall in loveTheir story rung true it was not falling in lust and then in love It was all the contrarySo why only 4 stars Well the whole story felt slightly rushed I would have preferred it to be a little bit longer with occurrences developed Anyhow a solid and enjoyable romance For the life of me I just could not get into this book The characters did really nothing for me They had no chemistry between them at all The premise of the story I liked but it lacked any suspense or OMG what is going to happen I thought it would be action packed with cloak and dagger and peril I mean he is a spy There was no scary parts or real deception No real drama or terrible situation I wasn t scared or on the edge of my seat at any point in in the story Insert Yawn The summary sounded better then the actual storyNot my cup of tea I like her other stories though so I am bummedReceived a copy from the publisher through NetGalley 3 12 stars Review to follow Aimee de Verris was sent off to the Scottish court by Catherine de Medici in order to spy on Mary ueen of Scots Aimee is no spy though she s just a oung naive girl who was in love with someone Catherine didn t approve of and only wants to return to her homeland However Aimee finds that Catherine had other plans for her she s tasked ueen Mary with finding her a husband Simon Marcheford has been a spy for ueen Elizabeth but all he wants now is to retire to the land bestowed upon him by the English crown ueen El Wed to a Spy by Sharon Cullen is book One in the New series An All the ueen s Spies This is the story of Aimee de Verris and Simon Marcheford Aimee is from France and is in love with a man her Aunt Catherine de Medici does not like So when she is caught in a compromising position with him her Aunt sends her to Scotland to spy on ueen Mary Catherine has promised Aimee if she does this she will agree to her marriage to this man But Aimee isn t spy material and hates it Simon is a spy for ueen Elizabeth and had hoped to retire but the ueen asked that him and his friends help her with one mission Simon is sent to Scotland to spy on ueen Marryueen Mary has ordered Simon to marry Aimeeof which neither has a choice Simon and Aimee soon find themselves having to depend on each other and possibly fallen in love My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read ARC REVIEW Wed to a Spy is the first book in Sharon Cullen s newest Historical Romance series All the ueen s Men I have avoided Elizabethan era romance I use to read it uite a bit and burned myself out on it I also tend to avoid books where they have actual historical figures for me I tend to overthink and overanalyze the small nuisance of the minorsecondary characters if they were real people in other words my brain gets in the way and it pulls me out of my fictional world That being said. Eward she decrees after he completes one last mission in Scotland But no sooner has he sussed out a diabolical plot up North than ueen Mary weds him to her cousin an exuisite beauty with troubled soulful eyes and orders Simon to watch her every move Aimee de Verris is no spy But her life may depend on becoming one Banished from the French court by Catherine de Medici Aimee finds herse.

I loved this book Sharon Cullen does a fantastic job setting up the premise for this book and the others to follow It established the three main characters for the series and what she wants them to do The intro focuses on Simon Marcheford a spy who is ready to retire and take the time to get to know is adolescent sister The ueen basically blackmails him into cooperating Aimee de Verris comes from a large french family and her mother has basically given up on getting et another daughter married off so she pushes Aimee off on a family relative her Aunt Catherine However when Aimee thinks she has fall in love with a Silk and Steel young man her guardian sees fit to send her off to Scotland as her spy Aimee can t defy her aunt and is stuck in cold and dreary Scotland spying on ueen Mary Simon was initially sent to Spain to keep tabs on the Spanish King s ties to Mary but after gaining the King s confidence he was sent to Scotland on a errand for the King Mary is delighted to have Simon there and sees the perfect opportunity to handle one of her obligations since he showed up ueen Mary knows that Catherine sent Aimee to her to act as a spy but is going to honor Catherine s reuest that she find Aimee a husband and she does Simon Marriage is the last thing Simon wants but he can t get out of it and he figures it s a easy way to get on Mary s good side and therefore easier to spy on her It doesn t hurt that Aimee is breathtakingly beautiful and Simon is halfway in love already Aimee doesn t take the news well She very much is a petulant child at this point but raised in that era spoiledes but she also should have also expected to have her marriage arranged for her and shouldn t have been as whiny but it leads to her actions Simon tries not to show how hurt he is by the fact that Aimee wants nothing to do with him and reacts in a way she he s not exactly proud of Meanwhile the conspirators that are out to dethrone Mary have a plan firmly in place and when they take action Aimee and Simon are in the thick of it At this point Simon must confide in Aimee of who he really is so he can safely sneak her away from Scotland and back to London so he can explain everything to Elizabeth In this time Aimee realizes how wrong she was about Simon and accepts her fate as well as falls in love with him But trouble comes when they get to London and Elizabeth discovers the truth about Aimee Their fate lies in the hands of ueen ElizabethOverall it really was entertaining and I liked the characters really for the exception of Aimee but I look forward to the other spies to get their HEA I received a copy of this title from the publisher for an honest review I rounded by rating up to 4 stars from 375 When I read the description of this book I knew I had to read it based on the setting and time period Scotland during the reign of ueen Mary Sent by her aunt Catherine de Medici of France to spy on ueen Mary Aimee de Verris is miserable in Scotland Constantly cold and missing her love Pierre Aimee suddenly finds herself wed to Sir Simon Marcheford upon the whim of ueen Mary Simon is a spy for ueen Elizabeth originally sent to keep an eye on King Phillip of Spain Simon found himself dispatched to Scotland by Phillip to deliver gold to Mary Aimee is determined to return to France and reunite with Pierre despite her marriage while Simon is determined to make the best of their unexpected situation The two find themselves caught up in the turbulence of the court and are forced to flee for their lives As they get to know each other it becomes clear that Aimee has found the perfect man for her I enjoyed Aimee growth during the story she found out just how strong she really was when forced to face numerous difficult situations Simon is protective and determined to protect his Aimee no matter what she decides to do about their marriage after the danger is over Although much of the action takes place over a relative short period of time I didn t feel like the relationship was forced and circumstances allowed the characters an opportunity to learn the important things about each other I m looking forward to the next title in this trilogy. Lf tasked with reporting on ueen Mary’s activities in Scotland where she’s unnerved by the frigid weather and brutish customs Worst of all Aimee’s been married off to a most uncouth lout But when murder strikes she learns to appreciate Simon’s talent for shielding her with every inch of his muscular frame If Aimee desires her husband perhaps she could trust him or even love hi.
